Manuel M. Tabb Jr. was born to the late Manuel and Inez Tab on March 13, 1939 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was born the fifth of five siblings: Trilba Favors, Delores Balfour, Erman Tabb and Alvin Tabb (all preceding him in death.)
Redd (as he was affectionately called) accepted Christ at a young age. He attended Farragut High School and McCoy Barber College before working with his father and ultimately taking over his father's barber shop on 116th street. He moved the shop to Madison Ave where it was named Tabb's Hair Styling Studio. He continued to cut hair until he was over seventy years old.
Redd married Rosemary Walker and to this union, three children were born. He loved his family. Many of his nieces and nephews looked upon him a father figure because of his patience and compassion.
He was active in his community as member of Lawndale Action Committee, coached a basketball team developed out of his back yard, and also marched with Dr. King in Marquette Park.
