Derwin Smith Obituary

Derwin D’Andre Smith, affectionately known as Chilli, was born to Emma Lucas and Arthur Smith on April 20, 1997 in Chicago, Illinois.

Since birth, Chilli was full of energy and passion. He always seemed to find his way into things, so being around him was never a dull moment. From his days at Fuller Elementary, Holy Angels, Ashburn, and Robert E. Lee High, Chilli made an impact and long lasting impression on everyone that he met, cultivating friendships that are everlasting.

Growing up, Chilli spent his time in church, singing in the children’s choir alongside his brother and sisters. His favorite song was “You Saw the Best in Me” by Marvin Sapp. His favorite scripture to recite was Psalm 23. He liked to be outdoors, experiencing all that life had to offer. If not outdoors, Chilli loved to be with his grandmother Hotmama, eating all her food. He had an undeniable sweet tooth.

He was fearless in his endeavors, taking challenges head on. He made you laugh with his never ending jokes. He liked hugs and kisses, especially with his mom. Those qualities made him a loving, protective, and loyal son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, grandchild, and friend.

Chilli leaves behind cherished memories with all that he loved and that loved him.

Chilli is survived by his mother, Emma Lucas; step father, Robert; sisters, Ashley Morris, Brittany Morris, Lacretia Smith; paternal sisters, Bianca and Nicole; brother, Mario Morris; his grandparents, Annie Lucas, Edward Lucas Sr.,Willie Smith, and his paternal grandmother; His dearest aunt Shawanda and 5 other aunts; 1 great uncle; 11 nieces and nephews, 8 cousins, a special friend, Tasia; and an abundance of family and friends.
