Tenika Litrese Whitehead was born December 6, 1985 to Alesia Sturghill and Andre Porter. She was raised with love by her maternal grandparents Joyce and Bennie Stughill, both of which preceded her in death.
At a very early age, being brought up in the church, Tenika dedicated her life to Christ. She started her faith walk under the teaching and leadership of Elder W.E. Whitehead at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. It was at Mount Carmel and under the leadership of Pastor Byron Whitehead that she would be baptized ad sing in the Revelation Choir. She later joined and was an active member of S.A.L.T. Christian Ministries, where she continued to grow in her faith, under the teaching and leadership of pastor Guinevere Thomas. She was also apart of the O.E.S. Chapter Queen Esther.
Tenika attended Thomas H. Scanlan where she graduated as the valedictorian of her 8th grade class. She went on to attend Simeon Career Academy for her high school years and later attended Harold Washington College.
On July 12, 2008 Tenika married her childhood sweetheart Byron Whitehead ll. To this union 3 amazing children were born.
Because Tenika always had a heart for children, she studied and received her certification in Child Day Care Management at Penn Foster. She used her educational program to gain employment at the YMCA as a youth camp leader. She later became a Teacher's Assistant at Mind Shapers Christian School. Tenika was always a leader and had an assertive personality. Switching careers in October of 2015, she was gainfully employed with the US Postal Service, where she quickly advanced to the role of supervisor.
Tenika's witty personality and warm spirit left an imprint on so many lives, with her much needed lighthearted jokes and words of encouragement, right in the midst of the most difficult circumstances. She knew how to brighten up anyone's day with her contagious laughter. Even during the toughest moments in her own life, you could always count on her to share a smile that could warm your soul and a joke that would tickle your toes.
Tenika departed life on this side on October 18, at the age of 33, and entered into everlasting life, after she VICTORIOUSLY won her battle against breast cancer.
