Mrs. Mattie Lee Coley was born July 7, 1924 in Lamar, Mississippi to the union of Jim and Louriner Rogers.
Mattie was the youngest of five children. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. James Coley in 1943. To this union 9 children were born. They later moved to Chicago in 1951 seeking a better life for their children. Ms. Mattie confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Sandhill Baptist Church in Lamar, Mississippi.
Mattie was a member of Latter Rain Baptist Church in Chicago, IL under the leadership of Rev. Peacock, which she attended faithfully until her illness.
Mattie was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. She had an unconditional love for others, everyone that met her felt special because she treated everyone the same always trying to help whenever she could. She believed in faith and prayer, saying "Nothing happens unless God allows", and there's nothing too hard for God.
Mattie was loved by many, especially her family. Mrs. Mattie, departed this life into a new light on October 11, 2019. She was the last of her siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband James Coley, Three sons: James Jr., Willie and Elmer Coley. She leaves to mourn: Five daughters, Mary Palmer, Carletta Quinn and Ella Dismuke (Tony) of Milwaukee, WI, Theresa Salley (Danny) of Mattesson, IL, Sheree Coley of Chicago, IL, one son Tyrone Coley of Atlanta, GA. One Daughter-in-law, Grace Coley of Chicago, IL, 26 grandchildren, 59 Great Grandchildren, 34 Great Great Grandchildren, Special Nieces Lorine Dortch, (Chicago, IL), Mary Frances Craddock, (Memphis TN) Special Great Niece Shirley Davenport-Lindsey (Chicago, IL) and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
