Jerry Bledsoe Sykes was born April 9, 1956 in Tutwiler, Mississippi to late Robert Sykes and Christine Tyler (Bledsoe) Burley. He passe away on Saturday June 29, 2019 in Oak lawn, Illinois. He also preceded in death by his brother Kenny Bledsoe, Sr and step father Clifton Burley.
He moved to Chicago at an early age, along with his family. He accepted Christ while in his teens. Jerry graduated from Englewood High School. Being a Christian, it was natural that he would meet his lovely wife Ethel at church. They met at New Life Church of God and Christ under the leadership of Pastor Leroy Jones Sr.
Jerry leaves behind that loving wife Ethel and their son Brenton. He also leaves mother-in-law Rena Cook, sisters-in-law Helen Cook and Dale Bledsoe, daughters Ebonie (Nathaniel) Johnson, Nikisha Bledsoe, Ashley Gardner, Jorie Simpson, Maya Sykes, Gijia (Brian) Herrera. Jerry had several grandchildren including; Christopher, Justin, Logan, Xavier, Tierra, Kaela, Kishaun, and Ashton.
One of Jerry's greatest attributes was that he was very neat and clean. Growing up when the house was spotless everyone knew that Jerry did the cleaning. He often went behind his siblings who did not clean as well as he would have hoped. This was a quality that followed him into adulthood. Some of his many other qualities were Protective, loving, funny, extremely intelligent, and sensitive. He was a Workaholic that had jobs selling real estate, working at a rental car agency, UIC, the Chicago Board of Education, and lastly as a security guard at Guardian Security Services in Blue Island.
